EATONTON, GA (June 15, 2021) – Anticipating an atmosphere of highly esteemed competition, 156 top-ranked golfers will travel from near and far to Great Waters at Reynolds Lake Oconee, Eatonton, GA for the 49th Southern Junior Championship from June 16-18, 2021.The field is diversely represented by over 20 states and five other countries.
This marks the first year that Great Waters at Reynolds Lake Oconee has hosted the Southern Junior Championship. The inaugural Championship was played in 1973 with Buddy Rountree of Ft. Lauderdale, FL claiming the title. Thomas Morrison of Dallas, TX was victorious in 2020, winning last year’s Southern Junior Championship at Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, AR.
Holding the record for most-won Championships is Charles Howell III of Augusta, GA with three victories (1994-1996).
The triumphant 2021 Southern Junior Champion will be exempt into the 2021 Southern Amateur Championship, along with the following:
● Champion receives an exemption into all future Southern Junior Championships, in which he is eligible to compete.
● Champion receives Fully Exempt Status with AJGA for two seasons (2021 & 2022).
● Top 5 finishers receive exemption into 2021 Northeast Junior Championship.

Format
The field of 156 players will play 54 holes of individual stroke play. The field will be cut to the low 66 players and ties after 36 holes. The lowest score for 54 holes will be the Champion. In the event of a tie for the overall Championship only, a hole-by-hole playoff will be held immediately following play. The playoff holes and their order of play will be determined by the Rules Committee. Initial groupings will be for two days; the field will be cut and regrouped by score for the third round based on second round results.
Eligibility
Entries are open to any male amateur golfer who has a current Handicap Index® not exceeding 5.4 under the World Handicap System as of the close of entries, and has reached his 14th birthday by June 16, 2021, but not his 19th birthday by June 18, 2021.
