About the Southern Junior Championship

The Championship was first played in 1973 with Buddy Rountree from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida winning the inaugural event. Charles Howell III, of Augusta, Georgia holds the record with 3 victories (1994-1996). This year marks the 50th playing of the Southern Junior Championship. In 2021, Jack Roberts, at 14-years-old, was crowned this year’s 49th Southern Junior Champion.

50th Southern Junior Championship

This year marks the 50th playing of the Southern Junior Championship and the first time that Country Club of Charleston has hosted the Southern Junior Championship. Jack Roberts, of Saint Marys, GA won the title in 2021 at Great Waters at Reynolds Lake Oconee, Eatonton, GA.

Southern Junior Past Results

The forerunner to the Annual Junior Championship was first played as the Junior Division of the Southern Amateur Championship and was held in conjunction with the Championship played July 17-20, 1972 at the Green Island Country Club, Columbus, Georgia. Commencing in 1973, the Annual Junior Championship was established and conducted at a site separate from the Southern Amateur Championship. To view years of history, click Past Results.
