Patrick Cover Extends Lead at Southern Amateur

Patrick Cover of Cornelius, N.C. extends lead to five strokes
 
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Round three results of the 112th Southern Amateur Championship of the Southern Golf Association hosted by The Club at Olde Stone in Bowling Green, Ky. on Friday, July 20, 2018 (7337 yards, par 36-36—72, 75.8/139).
The 112th Southern Amateur Championship continued today at The Club at Olde Stone in Bowling Green. 76 players faced much tougher conditions on day three with high winds throughout the day resulting in a scoring average a couple of shots higher than the previous two rounds.
Overnight leader Patrick Cover of Cornelius, N.C. extended his lead to five strokes following a two-under par 70. His round included five birdies and nines of 36-34. Cover has carded a total of eighteen birdies over the 54 holes played so far and stands with a tournament total of 202 (-14). He will play in the final group tomorrow teeing off from hole number one at 9:30a.m.
In a tie for second place are S.M. Lee of Buford, Ga., Eric Ansett of Spokane, Wash., and Taylor Bibbs of San Diego, Calif. Lee climbed up the leaderboard with a three-under par 69 which included five birdies. Ansett carded a one-under par 71. After a shaky start, Bibbs fired a back nine two-under par 34 to get in the clubhouse with a one-over par 73 to remain in a tie for second place. Lee and Ansett will join Cover in the final group tomorrow.
The final round will begin tomorrow at 7:30a.m. from the first and tenth tees.

• 68 (-4) was the low round of the day carded by Aman Gupta and Rhett Rasmussen
• 216 birdies and 2 eagles posted in round three
• Blake Collyer of Australia has made three consecutive eagles on the 347-yard drivable Par 4 14th hole
• Easiest hole: No. 14, 347-yard par 4, 3.724 scoring average
• Hardest Hole: No. 13, 189-yard par 3, 3.434 scoring average
