Doc Redman Named Southern Golf Association’s Amateur of the Month for August

BIRMINGHAM, AL (September 20, 2017) – Doc Redman, a 19-year-old rising sophomore at Clemson University, has been named Amateur of the Month for August by the Southern Golf Association (SGA).

Redman, a native of Raleigh, NC, put together an August run that catapulted him into the international spotlight.

In early August, Redman advanced to the final at the 115th Western Amateur Championship at Skokie Country Club in Glencoe, IL. Redman lost the title to Norman Xiong of Canyon Lake, CA on the fourth playoff hole which was the longest final match (22 holes) in Western Amateur history.

Two weeks later at the U.S. Amateur played at The Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, CA, Redman had to survive a 13-for-8 playoff to earn a spot in the match play field. Redman capitalized on the opportunity advancing to the final where he defeated reigning Pacific Coast Amateur champion Doug Ghim of Arlington Heights, IL in an epic 37-hole battle.

Redman’s U.S. Amateur victory earned him a birth on the 2017 U.S. Walker Cup Team and a likely invitation to the 2018 Masters Tournament. Team USA claimed a 19-7 victory over its counterparts from Great Britain and Ireland at the Los Angeles Country Club on September 9-10.

Redman is currently the seventh ranked amateur in the World according to Scratch Players World Amateur Ranking and No. 24 by the World Amateur Golf Ranking.
