Packed Leaderboard for Southern Amateur Final Round

PINEHURST, NC – Third round results of the 111th Southern Amateur Championship of the Southern Golf Association hosted by The Country Club of North Carolina (Dogwood) in Pinehurst, NC on Friday, July 21, 2017 (7301 yards, par 36-36—72, 74.9/135).
 
Stoney Crouch of Mount Juliet, TN and Lloyd Jefferson Go of the Philippines share a one shot lead heading into the final round of the 111th Southern Amateur Championship at 205 (-11).
 
Six players are within two strokes of the lead including 18 hole and 36 hole co-leader Karl Vilips of Australia.
 
Defending champion, Jimmy Stanger of Tampa, FL carded a third round 72 (213) and stands in a tie for 31st place.
 
Round 3 Notes:
  • 50 players are under par through 54 holes with field average score of 71.9
  • 66 (-6) was the low round of the day carded by Zachary Bauchou, Forest, VA
  • Pierceson Coody of Plano, TX and grandson of 1971 Masters Champion Charles Coody, posted a 67 to move up to T7
  • CCNC members W. Scott Lincicome of Pinehurst is T31 at 213 (-3) and Jackson Van Paris of Pinehurst is T64 at 218 (+2)
  • 268 birdies and 4 eagles made in round three
  • Easiest hole: No. 5, 523 yard par 5, 4.49 scoring average
  • Hardest Hole: No. 16, 238 yard par 3, 3.31 scoring average
The Southern Amateur Championship is open to male, amateur golfers who have a current USGA Handicap Index of 3.4 or less.
