Mason Williams of Bridgeport, West Virginia fired a three-under-par 68 to lead Round Three of the 116th Southern Amateur Championship. Williams stands 17-under 196 for the tournament.
“I was even through #13 today, which isn’t a great score out here,” said Williams. “I’m just staying patient and trying to make as many birdies as possible.”
David Ford of Peachtree Corners, Georgia carded a one-under-par 70 to stand second. Overall, Ford stands 14-under 199.
“I hit it good just like I did the first two days, and I can’t complain,” said Ford. “Some of the putts just didn’t go in, but I added up to one-under. So I’m still in it.”
Caleb Surratt of Indian Trail, North Carolina and Bryce Lewis of Hendersonville, Tennessee both stand T3 with a 13-under 200 overall. Surratt posted a seven-under-par 64 for the round. Lewis posted a three-under-par 68 for the round.

Format
The field will be cut to the low 66 players and ties after 36 holes. The lowest score for 72 holes will be the Champion. In the event of a tie for the Championship, a “sudden death” hole-by-hole play-off will be held immediately following play. The play-off holes and their order of play will be determined by the Committee. Initial groupings will be for the first two rounds; the field will be cut and re-grouped by score after the second round for the third round; field re-grouped by score for the fourth round.
Eligibility
Entries are open to any male amateur golfer who has a current USGA Handicap Index® not exceeding 3.4 under the World Handicap System as of the close of entries.
The Final Round of the 116th Southern Amateur Championship will begin at 7:30 a.m. off holes #1 and #10 on July 16, 2022.
