ST. SIMONS ISLAND, GA (July 12, 2022) – Ranked among the Top 10 amateur tournaments in the world, the 116th Southern Amateur Championship will take place at Sea Island Golf Club (Plantation Course) in St. Simons Island, GA, on July 13-16, 2022. 156 top-ranked golfers, representing 28 states and ten countries, will compete for the Championship title.

The 2022 Championship marks the second time that Sea Island Golf Club has hosted the Southern Amateur Championship. Maxwell Moldovan of Union Town, OH won the title in 2021 at Old Waverly Golf Club in West Point, Mississippi with a score of 264 (-20). Moldovan will return in 2022 to defend his title.
 
The Southern Amateur Championship is the fifth of the seven amateur tournaments within the Elite Amateur Golf Series. ​​Created to challenge the best of the best in amateur golf, the Elite Amateur Golf Series brings together the top amateur championships in a collective series of competition, the Elite Amateur Cup.
 
The 2022 Southern Amateur Championship will offer the following earned exemption:
●      Champion receives a five-year exemption into the Southern Amateur Championship (2023-2027).

Format
The field will be cut to the low 66 players and ties after 36 holes. The lowest score for 72 holes will be the Champion. In the event of a tie for the Championship, a “sudden death” hole-by-hole play-off will be held immediately following play. The play-off holes and their order of play will be determined by the Committee. Initial groupings will be for the first two rounds; the field will be cut and re-grouped by score after the second round for the third round; field re-grouped by score for the fourth round.
 
Eligibility
Entries are open to any male amateur golfer who has a current Handicap Index® not exceeding 3.4 under the World Handicap System as of the close of entries.

7:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.: Practice round.
