CHARLESTON, SC (June 15, 2022) – Round One results of the 50th Southern Junior Championship of the Southern Golf Association hosted by the Country Club of Charleston, Charleston, South Carolina, on Wednesday, June 15, 2022 (6600 yards, par 35-35–70, 71.6/132).

Kale Fontenot of Lafayette, Louisiana, and Maximilian Jelinek of Port St. Lucie, Florida, both posted a five-under 65 to finish T1. Fontenot and Jelinek hold a one-stroke lead. Fontenot made six birdies. Jelinek fired four birdies and one eagle.
 
Wyatt Plattner of Sarasota, Florida, stands third, carding a four-under 66 to finish the round. Plattner posted one eagle, four birdies and one bogey.
 
The following players stand T4 with a three-under 67 for the day:

●      Rocco Salvitti of Canonsburg, Pennsylvania
●      Areen Aggarwal of Columbia, Missouri
●      Rowan Sullivan of Charleston, South Carolina

●      Holland Giles of Pinehurst, North Carolina
 
Round One Notes:
●      Field average score: 72.92
●      Six eagles posted in Round One
●      392 birdies posted in Round One
●      27 players broke par
●      Easiest Hole: 15
●      Hardest Hole: 18
 
Format
●      54 holes of individual stroke play.
●      The field will be cut to the low 66 players and ties after 36 holes.
●      The lowest score for 54 holes will be the Champion.
●      In the event of a tie for the overall Championship only, a hole-by-hole playoff will be held immediately following play. The playoff holes and their order of play will be determined by the Rules Committee.
●      Initial groupings will be for two days; the field will be cut and grouped by score after the second round for the third round.
 
Eligibility
Entries are open to any male amateur golfer who has a current Handicap Index® not exceeding 4.4 under the World Handicap System as of the close of entries, and has reached his 14th birthday by June 15, 2022, but not his 19th birthday by June 17, 2022. Entrants cannot be a member of a college golf team or have participated in any supervised team activities.
 
Round Two of the 50th Southern Junior Championship begins Thursday, June 16, 2022, at 7:30 a.m. off holes #1 and #10.
