The Blessings Golf Club to Host 48th Southern Junior Championship

FAYETTEVILLE, AR (Aug. 11, 2020) – Ready for an atmosphere of highly esteemed competition, 120 top-ranked golfers will travel from near and far to The Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Arkansas for the 48th Southern Junior Championship from Aug. 12-14, 2020. The field is diversely represented by 30+ states and 1 other country. This marks the first year that The Blessings Golf Club has hosted the Southern Junior Championship. The inaugural Championship was played in 1972, with Buddy Rountree of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida claiming the title. University of Kentucky’s Jackson Lalonde was victorious in 2019, winning last year’s Southern Junior Championship at Idle Hour Country Club in Lexington, Kentucky. Holding the record for most-won Championships is Charles Howell III of Augusta, Georgia. Howell holds the record with three victories (1994-1996). The triumphant 2020 Southern Junior Champion will be exempt into the 2021 Southern Amateur Championship, along with the following:
  • Exemption into all future Southern Junior Championships, in which he is eligible to compete
  • Fully Exempt Status with AJGA for two seasons (2020 & 2021)
  • Exemption into 2020 Northeast Junior Championship
  • Exemption into 2021 Gator Invitational Junior Championship

Format: The field of 120 players will be cut to the low 48 players and ties after 36 holes. The lowest score for 54 holes will be the Champion. In the event of a tie for the Championship, a "sudden death" hole-by-hole playoff will be held immediately following play. The playoff holes and their order of play will be determined by the SGA Rules Committee. Initial groupings will be for two rounds; the field will be cut and re-grouped by score after the second round, for the third round.

Eligibility: Entries are open to any male amateur golfer who has a current Handicap Index® not exceeding 8.4 under the World Handicap System as of the close of entries, and has reached his 14th birthday by June 17, 2020, but not his 19th birthday by June 19, 2020.
