Old Waverly Golf Club, West Point, MS

WEST POINT, MS (July 13, 2021) – Ranked among the Top 10 amateur tournaments in the world, the 115th Southern Amateur Championship will take place at Old Waverly Golf Club in West Point, MS, on July 14-17, 2021. One hundred and fifty-six top-ranked golfers, representing 33 states and six countries, will compete for the Championship title.
The 2021 Championship marks the second time that Old Waverly Golf Club has hosted the Southern Amateur Championship. McClure “Mac” Meissner of San Antonio, TX won the title in 2020 at Maridoe Golf Club in Carrollton, TX with a score of 281 (-7). Meissner, the 2021 Byron Nelson Award recipient and an alternate in this year’s Walker Cup, went pro earlier this year.

The 2021 Southern Amateur Championship will offer the following earned exemptions:
●      Champion receives a five-year exemption into the Southern Amateur Championship (2022-2026).
●      Players finishing in the top 10 (and ties) receive an exemption into the 2022 Southern Amateur Championship.

Format
The field of 156 players will play 72 holes of individual stroke play. The field will be cut to the low 66 players and ties after 36 holes. The lowest score for 72 holes will be the Champion. In the event of a tie for the overall Championship only, a hole-by-hole playoff will be held immediately following play. The playoff holes and their order of play will be determined by the Rules Committee. Initial groupings will be for two rounds; the field will be cut and regrouped by score for the third round based on second round results. The field will be regrouped by score for the fourth round.

Eligibility
Entries are open to any male amateur golfer who has a current Handicap Index® not exceeding 3.4 under the World Handicap System as of the close of entries.
