AJ Ott Wins 113th Southern Amateur Championship on Second Hole Playoff


AJ Ott of Fort Collins, CO wins the 113th Southern Amateur Championship

Little Rock, AR (July 20, 2019) - Final round results of the Southern Golf Association’s 113th Southern Amateur Championship Presented by Chenal Properties hosted by Chenal Country Club (Founders) in Little Rock, AR on Saturday, July 20, 2019 (7131 yards, Par 35-36--71, Rating: 74.6/139).

Starting with a field of 159 players representing 28 states and 13 countries, two players needed extra holes to determine this year’s champion. AJ Ott of Fort Collins, CO (Colorado State) holed a 12-foot birdie putt on the second playoff hole to win the 113th Southern Amateur Championship over Noah Woolsey of Pleasanton, CA (Washington). Ott and Woolsey finished at 274 (-10).

54-hole leader Walker Lee of Houston, TX (Texas A&M) had an opportunity to join the playoff but his birdie attempt on the 18th hole just slid outside the hole. Lee finished in a three-way tie for third place at 275 (-9) along with Philip Barbaree of Shreveport, LA (LSU) and Wilson Furr of Jackson, MS (Alabama).

The winner of the Southern Amateur Championship receives a silver medal; their name engraved on theGeorge W. Adair Trophy, which is enshrined in the Bob Jones Room of the Atlanta Athletic Club; a Calamity Jane putter; and a five-year exemption into the Southern Amateur Championship.

Ott’s name will join other notable past champions such as Bobby Jones, Ben Crenshaw, Justin Leonard and Webb Simpson to name a few.

Andy Schonbaum of Argentina won the Low Mid-Amateur Award (players age 25+) with a score of 280 (-4).
